About LlewVallis/OpenMissileWars
OpenMissileWars is a free, open-source recreation of the popular Missile Wars Minecraft minigame. The project includes both a Spigot plugin that implements the core gameplay mechanics and a complete server infrastructure for launching and managing OpenMissileWars instances. Players join team-based arenas where they compete using missiles and defensive structures, with support for custom arenas, missiles, and item drops configurable through YAML files.
The project provides multiple ways to get started, from a user-friendly graphical launcher that works on Windows and requires only Java 8+ to running prebuilt servers or compiling from source on Unix systems. The launcher handles automatic downloads, issue detection, and update notifications, making it accessible to players who want to host their own servers. A public instance is available at urmw.live for those who want to play without setting up their own infrastructure.
The maintainer is actively seeking contributors due to time constraints, as the project demands continuous development to keep pace with Minecraft updates and community needs. The codebase is written in Java and includes administrative commands for managing arenas, resetting games, and creating custom structures, along with player-friendly commands for joining teams, spectating, and accessing information about the project.
