About OpenHD/Open.HD

OpenHD is an open-source project that repurposes affordable consumer Wi-Fi adapters for long-range, low-latency video transmission and drone telemetry. Rather than using standard Wi-Fi protocols, OpenHD configures wireless adapters in a broadcast mode similar to traditional analog video transmission, allowing multiple data streams—high-definition video, UAV telemetry, audio, and RC control signals—to be transmitted over a single channel.

The project is composed of several interconnected components: the core OpenHD software written in C++, a web-based documentation wiki, an image builder for pre-configured Raspberry Pi and x86 installations, and QOpenHD, a multi-platform ground control application that displays live video with customizable on-screen displays and MAVLink settings support. It's designed to work with affordable off-the-shelf hardware, making long-range drone operations accessible to FPV and UAV enthusiasts.

OpenHD is GPL v3.0 licensed and maintained by an active community across Telegram, Discord, and a dedicated forum. The project welcomes contributions from developers and has received infrastructure support from Cloudsmith for package hosting and DigitalOcean for cloud resources.
