About RfidResearchGroup/proxmark3

The Proxmark3 is a versatile RFID analysis tool that enables interaction with the majority of RFID tags worldwide. Originally developed by Jonathan Westhues, it has become the standard device for RFID enthusiasts and professionals conducting security research. The Iceman Fork represents the most feature-rich community distribution, providing an extensive array of commands and Lua scripts for automating chip identification, penetration testing, and tag programming across multiple RFID protocols including MIFARE, iClass, HiTag2, ISO14443, ISO15693, and 125kHz formats.

This fork significantly enhances the user experience compared to the official repository through numerous quality-of-life improvements including command tab completion, color-coded CLI output, comprehensive help systems, and intelligent hints. It introduces support for advanced features such as NFC NDEF handling, EMV and CIPURSE protocol support, tearoff attacks, and extensive standalone modes that run directly on the device. The project includes the most comprehensive collection of public key recovery tools and known key dictionaries, with implementations optimized for speed and accuracy.

The codebase is actively maintained with continuous integration across Linux, macOS, and Windows, regular static analysis through Coverity Scan and Cppcheck, and extensive documentation. It supports multiple operating systems and platforms including WSL, Termux/Android, macOS (including Apple Silicon), and iOS, with precompiled binaries available. The project uses GPLv3 licensing and welcomes community contributions following established coding style guidelines, with maintainers actively working to improve code structure, documentation, and cross-platform compatibility.
