About mn-pollinators/buzz-about

Buzz About is an educational web application designed to teach people about native pollinators found in Minnesota through an augmented reality participatory simulation. Built with Angular and Firebase, the application allows users to engage with interactive content that combines learning objectives with immersive AR technology. The project is accessible online at buzzabout.app and was developed as part of research into remote learning experiences, particularly in response to pandemic-related social distancing needs.

The application functions as a participatory simulation where users can experience pollinator ecology firsthand through AR interactions. The technology stack leverages Angular for the frontend framework and Firebase for backend services, with comprehensive testing infrastructure including Angular tests, Cypress integration tests, and Firebase tests to ensure reliability. The project is actively maintained with continuous deployment workflows.

Funding for Buzz About was provided by the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund through the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources, reflecting its significance as an educational resource for environmental conservation. The project welcomes community contributions and maintains a code of conduct for all participants in the Minnesota Pollinators organization.
