About olivierfriard/BORIS

BORIS is free, open-source software designed for researchers who study animal behavior. It simplifies the process of recording and analyzing behavioral observations by allowing users to log events while watching video or audio recordings, or during live observations of animals in the field or lab. The software runs on Linux, Windows, and macOS, making it accessible across different computing environments.

Beyond basic event logging, BORIS includes analytical tools such as time budget calculations and plotting functions to help researchers summarize and visualize their behavioral data. The software has become widely adopted in ethology and behavioral research, evidenced by over 2,693 citations in peer-reviewed scientific publications since its creation in 2012. It provides comprehensive documentation including a detailed user guide and video tutorials to help researchers get started.

BORIS is developed and maintained by Olivier Friard and distributed under the GNU General Public License version 3. The project actively welcomes bug reports and feature requests through GitHub's issue tracker, allowing the research community to contribute feedback for ongoing development and improvement.
