About Tafiti/test-lists
This repository contains curated lists of URLs organized by country code, designed to help researchers and organizations test for website censorship across different regions. The lists are divided into a global collection covering internationally relevant and popular websites, and country-specific local lists created by regional experts that reflect local languages and regional concerns.
The URLs in these lists are categorized into four main themes: Political content focused on government opposition and human rights, Social content covering sensitive topics like sexuality and gambling, Conflict and Security content related to armed conflicts and militant groups, and Internet Tools including email services and circumvention methods. This categorization helps researchers systematically identify which types of content face censorship in different jurisdictions.
The dataset is maintained by the Citizen Lab and related contributors, made available in both CSV and JSON formats, and is particularly valuable for organizations like OONI (Open Observatory of Network Interference) that conduct large-scale Internet censorship research. The lists are provided under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license and can be contributed to by the public through established submission guidelines.
