About garg3133/JagratiWebApp

Jagrati is a social initiative by students at IIITDM Jabalpur that provides free education to underprivileged children in five nearby villages, currently serving around 100 students from classes 1 through 10. The program focuses on basic education while also preparing fourth and fifth graders for entrance exams to prestigious government institutions like Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Eklavya Model Residential Schools, and Gyanodaya Vidyalaya. Beyond academics, the initiative organizes blood donation camps, tree planting drives, and awareness campaigns in local villages.

JagratiWebApp is the official web application built with Django and Python to manage the day-to-day operations of this educational initiative. The application helps volunteers track classroom content, manage homework assignments, record student and volunteer attendance, and maintain comprehensive records of all students and contributors. By centralizing this information, the app allows volunteers to quickly understand what was previously taught and make informed decisions about current lessons, while also streamlining the attendance process compared to manual methods.

The project uses Django for the backend with Bootstrap 4 for the frontend and SQLite for the database. The development team has outlined ambitious expansion plans including new modules for inventory management, events, meetings, and study materials, along with additional features like notifications and a volunteer contribution leaderboard. The project welcomes community contributions and has participated in multiple open-source programs including Kharagpur Winter of Code, Script Winter of Code, and Girlscript Summer of Code.
