About ExpressLRS/ExpressLRS

ExpressLRS is an open source radio control link designed for FPV racing drones and remote control applications. It uses LoRa modulation with Semtech SX127x and SX1280 hardware paired with Espressif or STM32 processors to achieve industry-leading range and latency. The system supports both 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz frequency bands, with the 2.4 GHz option capable of reaching 1000 Hz packet rates for extremely responsive control, while 900 MHz offers better penetration at up to 200 Hz.

The project includes a comprehensive feature set including telemetry compatible with Betaflight, WiFi firmware updates, OLED and TFT display support, and multiple receiver protocols such as CRSF, SBUS, and MAVLink. Hardware support spans dozens of targets from various manufacturers, with configuration handled through the ExpressLRS Configurator. The system eliminates traditional button binding through bind phrases and supports VTX frequency adjustments directly from the radio's Lua scripting interface.

ExpressLRS is maintained by ExpressLRS LLC and an active open source community, with development discussion and user support centered around Discord and a Facebook group. The project accepts contributions in code, testing, and donations through Open Collective to fund infrastructure and test equipment. The codebase is written primarily in C and designed to balance the competing demands of radio range, latency, and reliability that are critical for competitive FPV racing.
